Karen Mitchell MBCS
Karen has over 20 years experience of working with schools, local authorities, government departments and industry partners delivering a broad range of Information and Communications Technology services to the education sector.
During the time she was working for Becta, Karen was responsible for establishing and implementing a stakeholder strategy for engaging with Local Authorities and Industry partners to deliver Government’s Harnessing Technology agenda and on development of national ICT security guidance for schools and colleges, development of national functional requirements and technical specifications for the education sector used for the DfE ICT Services Framework, driving the adoption nationally of an open Interoperability standard (SIF) as well as supporting delivery of the National ICT Services procurement Framework and the Becta published 2010 MIS Market review.
Prior to her time at Becta she spent nine years in developing and delivering the Education ICT and Information Management strategies and associated services for a new unitary authority in Southampton. This included developing the local authority Children’s Services Management Information strategy and implementation of systems to support it as well as working with schools in developing ICT Strategy and implementing the technical infrastructure and services to deliver it. During this time she also developed partnerships with industry and lead one of the first Sharepoint Learning platform implementations in the schools sector in the UK in partnership with Microsoft. She has been involved in procurement possesses at Local, Regional and National level (full OJEU) including tender documentation, tender evaluations and supplier debriefs. She has also worked in Hampshire County Council delivering IT training and support services to schools and colleges.
She is a Member of NAACE, the British Computer Society and is a qualified project manager (PRINCE 2 Practitioner). She is also a school governor and new business mentor.
